Can I sell a car with no rego?
Yes. As the owner, you can sell a car with expired or cancelled registration without re-registering it first. The buyer takes on responsibility for the vehicle from there, or in our case, we simply remove it.
What about unroadworthy cars?
- A car that has failed, or would fail, a roadworthy inspection can still be sold as-is.
- You are not required to repair the car or obtain a safety certificate before selling it for parts, scrap or removal.
- We buy unroadworthy cars in any condition, including cars that won't start or drive at all.
What you'll need
- Proof of ownership, such as your registration papers, even if the registration itself has lapsed.
- Photo identification.
- Your number plates removed if you haven't already cancelled the registration.
